Templars;
The Templars, also known as the Knights Templar, were a monastic military order-turned corporate giant formed during prehistory. The Templars sought to create a perfect world, although the means by which they sought to do so were questionable (by force). Because of this, they were the sworn enemies of the Assassin Order, who believe that Man should always have the ability to choose; to have free will, even if it means a flawed humanity. With these conflicting ideologies, the two groups have fought over the course of thousands of years for the control and fate of humanity.
Assassins
The Assassins, also known as the Assassin Order, Assassin Brotherhood and Hashshashin, were an organized order of assassins who fought a continuous secret war with the Templars for over two-thousand years. Whereas the Templars strove for the power to save humanity from itself by controlling free will, the Assassin Order struggled to ensure the survival of free will, as it is what allows for the progression of new ideas and the growth of individuality.
The Assassins, if not the order itself, had existed since at least 456 BC, throughout the Roman era, the Middle Ages, the Italian Renaissance, and into the 21st Century.
Courtesans
They are well-educated and independent woman of free morals, eventually a trained artisan of dance and singing, especially one associated with wealthy, powerful, or upper-class men who provided luxuries and status in exchange for "companionship." The word was borrowed by English from Italian through the French form "courtisane" during the 16th century, especially associated to the meaning of "court-mistress" and "prostitute".
Today, the term courtesan has become a euphemism to designate an escort or a prostitute, especially one who attracts wealthy clients.
Thieves
Thieves take another person's property without that person's freely-given consent. Thieves also commit some crimes against property, such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, shoplifting, fraud and sometimes criminal conversion. In some jurisdictions, theft is considered to be synonymous with larceny; in others, theft has replaced larceny.
Mercenaries
Mercenary is essentially motivated by money, the term "mercenary" usually carries negative connotations.
Mercenaries (and all other hired help) cost 150 florins, follow you around, and make comments after a fight. They bear Heavy Weapons and are like a more powerful variation of the Brute. However, Mercenaries encountered in missions (that are not hired) are free and have Longswords and Maces.
Civilians
People who live in the cities, towns, whatever, and live normal lives. They can hold normal jobs, such as being a teacher or being a merchant; they can even be aware of the wars going on around them, though whether they're involved or not is up to you.
[merchants are citizens who sell various items in the many cities.]
